How Do You Feel About Pot Fillers?

Okay, you know I probably shouldn't say this but I just have too...I think Pot Fillers are cool and I think they look oohhhh sooo sexy on that backsplash over the stovetop, but if you are seriously thinking it's going to save your back from hauling a heavy pot over to the stovetop you still have to haul it the other way after you are done cooking. :)

So do any of you have a pot filler and if so, do you use it and love it?

If not, would you consider one in the future?

You are absolutely right about the advantage of saving steps carrying a full pot only works in one direction --that is unless you can position a prep sink close by. The advantage really is that the pot filler should be high enough over the stove to be able to accommodate a tall stock pot.
When I was it NY a couple of weeks ago with the Brizo folks, I brought up the subject of pot fillers to their designers because, though they are a fairly new (and therefore still pretty cool) compared to other faucets, they really seem to lack style. Seems like no matter the configuration --wall mounted or deck mounted, they are pretty ungainly looking. The Brizo designer commented to me the main problem with them is that they all eventually begin to droop.

I really don't think they are necessary....
like you said you still have to carry the water (after used) back to a sink AND I personally think they would get quite greasy and dirty from cooking. Not easy to clean with all the joints either. Wonder who came up with this! Not anything I would want....
Thanks for sharing and good to bring up the concerns to those who may be thinking about putting one in.

huh.
well, I am just glad that you posted a photo because while I was waiting for the photos to load I kept thinking "What in the heck is a pot filler?"
The things that wealthy people think of....

I suppose it could be useful. I'd kill for that beautiful range in the last photo above though...lovely.

Came over from SITS...going "rogue" on Sharefest Saturday even though it wasnt specified.

Have a great weekend!

Stopping by from SITS. I've never had a pot filler, but that is one of the things my husband and I want when we get to build. I really hadn't thought about the fact that you still have to carry the pot back to the sink to empty it, but hey, at least you only have to carry it once instead of twice if you have a pot filler!

You make a good point about still having to carry them one way, but at least that's one less trip...and I love these Moen ShowHouse Pot Filler Faucets

I have a husband always willing to lift heavy pans. But if he dies or something then I'd probably want a pot filler! They do look cool and my neighbor has one and is always showing off with it.

"Oh, look, someone is at the sink, let me just totter over here and fill this teensy, weensy little glass with the pot filler."

Well, OK, she doesn't.

But she might.

Cute post.

I am presently thinking of installing one, I have to tear down the walls of my kitchen any way and while they are down it's now or never if I want one but some models are down right ugly folded up againt the wall and they don't look adjustable height-wise which means if you fill up a smaller pot that water is going to splash all over the place. I saw a video of some contractor showing off a pot filler he installed and going on about how cool it was and he held the pot up to the pot filler so we wouldn't see this splashing problem, kida defeats the purpose of the pot filler, and there were videos of filling big pots but there was already 3 inches of water in the bottom of these pots also masking the splash problem. But often I find it would be handy to have that water right there, right now, I usually use the kettle in these situations. But a properly designed and good looking potfiller would be in my dream kitchen.

This is the first time I comment on your site, but I've been keeping up with your work for about a few months. I admire the passion with which you write the articles and dream that someday I can do the same. Love

I'm not a fan, for one simple reason - everything in that area needs cleaning and they seem so pesky to clean. Especially the jointed ones. I don't have a staff to keep metal polished and shiny so I don't need more metal ;)

I came to this site to find some compelling practical reasons for having a pot filler. All respect to everyone, but I'm finding: envy, desire and cooless. I once thought all of the above too, but now I think...useless! ...and it's just one more thing to clean and eventually have to fix. The expense of putting one in does not seem to be justified by anything. In the end, I think restaurants could REALLY use them, but isn't owning one like owning a 4-wheel drive and living in downtown NYC?
